SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s golf team, led by Ricardo Gouveia, is in fifth place after the first round of the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms.
Gouveia is tied for third after one round and paced the Knights in their first 18 holes of the season. Gouveia fired a 4-under 68 on Friday and is just one stroke off the lead.
As a team, the Knights were 2-over for the day, recording a total score of 290. UCF is 11 strokes behind first-round leader Houston, which shot a 279 and is 9-under. Liberty, Kentucky and Virginia are each in front of the Knights, while there are 10 teams trailing UCF after one day of action.
Two UCF newcomers – Ryan Stovash and Linus Vaisanen – are teid for 23rd after carding 1-over rounds of 73. Rounding out the UCF scoring was Kyle Wilshire, who was 4-over at 76. Greg Eason is also taking part for the Knights, but his 77 (+5) did not count toward the team score. Playing as an individual, newcomer Federico Zuchetti is currently in a tie for 28th, going 2-over for the day with a 74.
Saturday’s second round begins at 8 a.m., while the Knights tee off at 8:45 a.m.
