The UCF men's golf team will be among some of the nation's best on Saturday and Sunday at the 3M Augusta Invitational, which is hosted by GRU Augusta at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Teams open 54-holes of stroke play on on the par-72, 7,142-yard Forest Hills layout Saturday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, with two rounds played on the first day. A final 18 holes in round three on Sunday will conclude the tournament.
Seven of the 15 teams in the field are ranked in the Top 25 in the most recent GolfStat.com NCAA rankings, led by No. 6 UCF. No. 8 Houston, No. 9 Illinois, No. 10 Virginia Tech, No. 17 Texas, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 23 New Mexico are also in the field.
The Knights will send reigning American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week Ricardo Gouveia, Greg Eason, Federico Zucchetti, Kyle Wilshire and Linus Vaisanen to Augusta. Gouveia, Eason and Zucchetti were all exempt from qualification for this event, based on their finishes at the previous event. Wilshire was a coach's selection. Head-to-head qualification for the fifth spot was held between Vaisanen and Ryan Stovash.
The following is a look at the Knights' qualifying criteria for the 3M Augusta Invitational:
1. Ricardo Gouveia – Exempt based on finishing in the Top-15 at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite (Champion).
2. Greg Eason – Exempt based on finishing in the Top-15 at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite (2nd).
3. Federico Zucchetti – Exempt based on finishing in the Top-15 at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite (T-12th).
