ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team will be close to home when NCAA Regional play begins later this month as the Knights learned Monday that they will be participating in the postseason in nearby Ocala. UCF is one of 14 squads that will play at the Golden Ocala Golf Club May 19-21.
Head coach Bryce Wallor's Knights earned a spot in the NCAA Regionals by claiming their third-straight Conference USA Championship title last month. UCF will be playing in the NCAA Regionals for the fifth-consecutive year.
The Knights will compete in Ocala against regional host Florida, Augusta State, Arkansas, Oregon, NC State, Baylor, Kennesaw State, Notre Dame, Missouri, Southeastern Louisiana, Jacksonville State, Georgia Southern and Jackson State. UCF earned the No. 6 seed at the regional.
Teams will play 54 holes in Ocala. The site is one of six regionals throughout the country. The low five teams at each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 31-June 5 in Stillwater, Okla.
On April 26, UCF earned C-USA's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals by finishing the 11-team league championship in Texarkana, Ark., at 2-under 862, two shots ahead of second-place Memphis. Three Knights - freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) and juniors Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) - recorded top-15 individual finishes. Eason, who placed second, was selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Year.
The trip to the regionals will serve as the 14th postseason appearance in program history.
Last year, in Wallor's first campaign at UCF, the Knights participated in the NCAA Regional in Santee, Calif., and finished sixth out of 13 squads.
