BROOKLINE, Mass. (UCFKnights.com) – Two UCF senior golfers – Ricardo Gouveia and Greg Eason – have both qualified for the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur, which runs through Sunday at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

Gouveia carded a 2-under 68 Monday and followed that up with a 3-over 73 Tuesday to finish the two rounds of stroke play at +1. Eason fired an even-par 70 Monday and a 1-over 71 Tuesday to also go +1 for the two rounds of stroke play. The Knight duo were part of a seven-way tie for 20th after the stroke play portion of the competition.

In the U.S. Amateur, there are two days of stroke play qualifying to determine the 64 players who will advance to match play. From there, players are seeded according to their stroke play finish and the match-play bracket is determined. Eason is slated to face Michael Weaver of Fresno, Calif. in the first round of match play, while Gouveia will take on Brandon Hagy of Westlake Village, Calif.

Gouveia reached the quarterfinals of the match play portion of the 2012 U.S. Amateur and therefore received an exemption into this year’s tournament. Eason received an exemption to this year’s United States Amateur based on his World Amateur Golf Ranking. He is currently rated No. 34 among the world’s top amateur golfers. Eason, an All-America performer for UCF last season, finished tied for eighth at the NCAA Championship back in May.

The UCF men’s golf team opens its 2013-14 season Sept. 6-8 at the Northern Intercollegiate in Sugar Grove, Ill.
