ORLANDO, Fla. ( – The UCF men’s golf team will be looking to keep a winning streak going at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate next week. The Knights, who have won each of their first two tournaments of the 2013-14 campaign, tee off in Birmingham, Ala. Monday.

“Obviously, we’ve had a little bit of success,” UCF assistant coach Bill Rankin said. “We had four guys in the top five last week. The best way you can help your team is to play well individually. Our guys are taking that to heart. They are practicing as hard as they can to beat each other every day in practice and taking that to the tournaments.”

The competition at the Shoal Creek event will be stiff, however. UCF is ranked No. 6 in the nation by Golfstat (as of Sept. 25), while the host school UAB is currently at No. 5. Other highly-ranked squads taking part in the event include No. 19 Missouri and No. 31 Liberty.

“The competition is only going up from here,” Rankin said. “Our guys are looking forward to it. We want to play the best every week and we’re going to get some of that this week.”

Other schools in the 12-team field include Florida, Georgia Southern, Memphis, North Florida, North Texas, Mississippi, Toledo and Tulsa. Seven of the teams competing – including UCF – finished among the top 50 in the Golfstat rankings last season, while 10 of the 12 wrapped up 2012-13 among the top 70.

The 54-hole tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday at Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club. The Par 72 course will play at 7,234 yards for this event, which is hosted by former UAB golfer and PGA Tour professional Graeme McDowell.
