ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Former Knight Connor Arendell earned his European Tour card Friday. Arendell, who played for the Knights from 2009-11, will now have the opportunity to take part in 2014 European Tour events.
Arendell finished in eighth place in the final qualifying tournament. The six-round event was held at the PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona, Spain. Arendell was 12-under for the tournament. He carded rounds of 72, 70 and 71 to open the first half of the tournament. But he really made his move in the final three rounds. He finished with scores of 65, 70 and 68 to climb the leaderboard and claim one of the 27 European Tour cards issued.
“Connor Arendell was the first young man that I recruited to come to UCF,” Knights head coach Bryce Wallor said. “We have watched him work tirelessly on his golf game and we are so happy for him achieving his European Tour Card. Connor Arendell is one of the best wedge players I have ever coached. We feel he should become a very successful touring professional in the coming years.”
Playing for Wallor and UCF, he earned All-Conference USA First Team honors in 2010-11. He also helped UCF claim a pair of C-USA Championship titles and helped lead the team to a berth in the 2011 NCAA Regionals.
