ORLANDO, Fla. ( - The UCF men's soccer team closed out the preseason in strong fashion Sunday, blasting Florida Tech, 6-1, in exhibition action at the UCF Soccer Complex. UCF's starters played the majority of the first half, and the Knights scored five goals in the opening stanza.

Two of UCF's goals came in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Omar Vallejo scored two minutes into the match off a cross from Deshorn Brown, and Eduardo Jimenez found the back of the net seven minutes later with a score that was assisted by Jeff Michaud and A.J. Nelson. Brown, who had a goal and an assist Friday in a scrimmage versus Mercer, dribbled past a defender on Vallejo's goal and then crossed the ball into the box to his teammate.

"This was a better performance. Throw the score out of this game. I was more concerned with our mentality and our approach," UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "We are exceptionally talented, and the chemistry is getting better. I couldn't be more pleased that things are coming together at the right time."

UCF finished the contest with a 16-5 shot advantage. The match was called with 16 minutes remaining following a lengthy lightning delay.

Romario Williams gave the hosts a 3-0 lead in the 26th minute when he scored on a blast from 25 yards out. UCF also added an own goal and a tally from Justin White in the first half and a score from Matthew Gaskins in the 71st minute. Twenty-three Knights saw action Sunday, with reserves receiving the bulk of the second-half minutes.

UCF will open the regular season at Florida Atlantic on Aug. 24. The squad will make its home debut on Sept. 1 against Old Dominion.

The match versus Florida Tech served as the Knights' final of three preseason contests. Season tickets, which include a savings off of the single-game ticket price, are $30 and include a commemorative UCF soccer scarf.
