ORLANDO - Redshirt freshman Adham Rashwan scored in the 117th minute to give UCF a 2-1 double overtime victory over Gardner-Webb in Atlantic Sun men's soccer action at the UCF Soccer Complex on Thursday night.
The win kept the Knights conference record at a perfect 3-0 while they improved to 4-3-2 overall. GWU fell to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the A-Sun.
UCF forced Bulldog keeper Tyler Kettering to make three saves on nine shots in the first half, but could find the back of the net until the 53rd minute. Junior Jon Imran dribbled in and scored his fourth goal of the season short side at 52:47.
The Golden Knights continued to keep the offensive pressure high as Kettering made three more saves in the second half. GWU fought back and forced UCF keeper Ryan McIntosh to stop three shots, including a diving save on senior Darnell Carroll with 22 minutes remaining in regulation.
Senior Sergio Lozano tied the match at one all at 82:00 when he took a pass from classmate Brian Wentzel.
UCF owned the overtime periods territorially and Rashwan scored his first collegiate goal at with just over three and half minutes left on the clock.
The Knights outshot the Bulldogs by a 25-16 margin and the two teams were whistled for a total of 39 fouls and six cautions. McIntosh made four saves on the night, while Kettering had eight.
The Golden Knights host Campbell on Saturday at the UCF Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
