ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's soccer team takes the field for the first time this fall on Monday. The Knights have a series of administrative meetings set for Sunday afternoon in preparation for the start of the preseason.
On Monday at the soccer practice field, UCF is slated for its annual fitness test at 7:30 a.m., which is followed by the first of two on-field workouts at 9 a.m. The squad uses an afternoon session to breakdown film before hitting the pitch again later in the evening at 6 p.m.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Sebastian Evers tallied a 6-2-5 mark for the Knights in 2013 with five shutouts. The Miami, Fla., native discussed gearing up for his final preseason in the above video.
He spent a majority of the summer training in Europe. The veteran players left a strong impression on Evers by allowing for the newcomer to become a part of their cohesive unit.
"I am going to have a lot more patience with the younger players," Evers said. "Over in Europe, the veterans had patience with me, so I learned a lot about team chemistry and the importance of treating your teammates with respect and accountability."
Evers and the Knights host two exhibition games at the UCF Soccer Complex with the first set for 5 p.m. on Aug. 17 against Jacksonville. Among the top returners for UCF is junior Romario Williams, who was recently named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List after being selected as the 2013 American Offensive Player of the Year.
The squad is set to welcome nine newcomers this fall, which includes a pair of transfers in junior midfielder Hadji Barry and sophomore midfielder Tazeo Gilpin.
