ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After three weeks of preseason camp, the Knights are ready to open the season. UCF will make its 2013 debut Friday evening, hosting Florida Atlantic at 8 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
The match is part of a doubleheader with the UCF women's soccer squad, which will host Tennessee at 6 p.m.
The contest is the first of nine regular-season home matches for the Knights, who are in their first campaign in the American Athletic Conference, one of the top leagues in the country.
Season tickets, which include a savings off of the single-game ticket price, are $30 and include a commemorative UCF soccer scarf. Season tickets are currently available by visiting UCFKnights.com or by calling (407) UCF-1000. The Gold Pass, which includes season tickets to all volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, soccer and track & field contests, is also available now.
UCF enjoyed success in its three scrimmages in preparation for the season. The Knights concluded their stretch of three exhibitions in six days this past Saturday against Georgia Southern, posting a 4-3 win. Head coach Bryan Cunningham's team has a large group of newcomers and the scrimmages allowed the group to get familiar with their new teammates and UCF's style of play.
"We just played three matches in six days," Cunningham said of the scrimmages. "There is a genuine trust to (the team) and a genuine camaraderie. Sometimes that gets forced. We don't have that. They genuinely like being around each other and they are committed to what we are doing and they have a coaching staff that believes in them and they believe in themselves."
The match with the Owls is the first of three-straight at home to open the year for the Knights, who host FIU on Sept. 5 and North Florida on Sept. 8.
