ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's soccer team will look to remain unbeaten in 2013 when it hosts North Florida Sunday at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. The contest will conclude a three-match homestand to open the year for the Knights.
UCF (1-0-1) picked up its first win of the season Thursday, rallying for a 2-1 victory over visiting FIU. The Panthers scored in the second minute and led most the match, but late goals from Fernando Laverde and Romario Williams gave the Knights the victory.
"We were able to finish two opportunities, which is great," UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham said of the second-half scores against FIU. "UNF has improved a lot. It is hard when you play the in-state teams. There are a lot of local rivalries. Everybody knows everybody."
UNF is 1-1-0 after splitting a pair of matches at home last weekend.
After facing the Ospreys, the Knights will return to action next weekend in Norfolk, Va., participating in the Stihl Classic, hosted by Old Dominion. UCF will face William & Mary Friday, before concluding the event against the host Monarchs Sunday.
UCF and UNF met last year in Jacksonville and the Knights breezed to a 4-0 victory. Williams scored his first collegiate goal in the win.
