ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - In its third-consecutive match at the UCF Tennis Complex on Sunday, the UCF men's tennis team claimed a 7-0 victory over visiting Georgia Southern. With the triumph, the Knights improve to 2-1 in the early part of their spring schedule.

In the Knights victory, junior Jorge Blasco (Alicante, Spain) defeated another challenging opponent, Alain Garrido, at the top position 6-7, 6-1(10-3). Garrido, also a native of Spain, gave the Knights their most competitive singles match of the afternoon.

Junior Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) kept his record blemish free as he and Blasco won the clinching match of doubles and propelled the Knights to singles play with the one-point advantage.

In singles, Samson defeated Albert Codina Sala at the No. 3 position 6-3, 6-4 to improve to 3-0 in dual match play.

"We played a complete match today," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "Georgia Southern fought very hard, but our guys stayed focused and took care of business."

Georgia Southern came into the match following two road losses earlier in the weekend at Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast. The lone highlight of the afternoon for the Eagles came from the doubles pair of Kyle Hoffman and Matthijs Verdam. While the Knights had already clinched the point in doubles, the Georgia Southern pair defeated sophomore Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) and senior Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) at the No. 1 position.

"I am very happy with the way we competed today," Cashman said. "We will look to build on that this week during practice."

The Knights return to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 as they are set to take on Louisiana-Lafayette for their first road challenge of the season.
