ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Fresh off of a pair of victories to finish out the home season, the UCF men’s tennis team will hit the road this weekend for its final regular season matches of the year. The no. 60-ranked Knights take on no. 26 Memphis and Middle Tennessee before gearing up for the American Athletic Conference Championships.
Now 12-6 on the season, UCF has already recorded its highest win total during regular season play since the 2008 campaign. That season the Knights went 12-9 before falling to SMU in the Conference USA Semifinals.
UCF is coming off home wins over Bethune-Cookman and Troy last week, which improved the squad’s record in Orlando to 9-2. The Knights will look to improve on their 1-3 road record this weekend.
Ranked 26th in the nation in the latest release by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Memphis will be a challenging opponent for UCF’s second and final match against an opponent from The American.
The Tigers will welcome the Knights to town on Friday at 3:00 p.m. ET sporting an 11-4 overall record. Fortunately for UCF, Memphis has only played two matches on its home court. Unfortunately, the Tigers have had success, defeating both Chattanooga and Murray State by a 7-0 clip back in late January.
The Blue Raiders, meanwhile, are 9-12 overall and will host USF on Friday before taking on the Knights Sunday at 11:00 a.m. ET in Murfreesboro. Middle Tennessee has won four out of its last five contests and are currently riding a five-match home win streak after topping South Alabama 4-1 on Mar. 30.
