ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - During his search for a college in the United States, senior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) heard nothing but good things about UCF. His source was easy trust - former UCF star David Winberg. Winberg, who served as a mentor to Beigart in Sweden, was the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year in 1999 and later spent time as an assistant coach with the Knights.
Beigart followed Winberg's advice and arrived at UCF in 2006. Since that time, he has been named to the All-Conference USA Second Team on two occasions and has been a consistent force in head coach Bobby Cashman's lineup. In 2009, Biegart claimed 11 singles victories during the spring, mostly at the No. 4 spot.
Beigart recently shared his thoughts on why he decided to come to UCF.
"David told me great things about UCF and the tennis team," he said. "I love the campus. I have been to many other schools playing matches, but I have not seen a nicer campus than what we have at UCF."
Beigart says that Winberg told him that he had some of the best times of his life at UCF.
"David told me that he had such a good time at UCF and wished his time at UCF wasn't over. It is always and advantage having a friend who has gone to a school before, so you can get some good info how it really is."
