ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF men's tennis head coach Bobby Cashman annually creates difficult dual-match schedules for the Knights, and 2012 is no different. Cashman announced UCF's spring schedule Tuesday and the slate includes contests against seven squads that participated in the NCAA Championship a year ago.
The Knights will play 12 regular-season matches at the UCF Tennis Complex during the spring, including an eight-match homestand in March. Cashman's team will also host the Conference USA Championship for the second time from April 20-23.
UCF opens the schedule on Jan. 28, hosting Jacksonville. The Knights will play three NCAA Championship participants - Army (March 11), Indiana (March 15) and Auburn (March 16) - in Orlando. UCF will play postseason teams Florida (Feb. 2), Miami (Feb. 24), Tulsa (April 6) and Middle Tennessee State (April 14) away from home.
"This is an incredibly challenging schedule," Cashman said. "Our guys will be tested each and every time that they take the court. We are really looking forward to facing some great competition during the spring."
The Knights will open the spring by hosting a non-dual-match tournament - the UCF Spring Invitational Jan. 6-8. Players from Alabama, Louisville, Indiana and Radford will be in action at the event.
During dual-match play, five of the team's road contests will be in Florida. In addition to playing at Florida and Miami, the Knights will meet host North Florida (Feb. 17), Florida Atlantic (Feb. 26) and USF (March 29).
The Knights return six letterwinners from last season's squad, and also welcome a pair of talented transfers in Francesc Aulina (Virginia Tech) and Juan Bolona (Clemson).
