Ali Roberts led UCF with 17 points as the Golden Knights defeated Campbell 67-57. UCF improved to 6-6 on the season and 4-1 in the Atlantic Sun while Campbell fell to 4-8 on the season and 3-3 in the A-Sun.
Roberts netted the 17 points on eight field goals and one free throw while grabbing three rebounds with one assist and three steals. Francine Houston was also in double-digits with 13 points. Houston also had five assists, one steal and three rebounds. Celeste Hudson recorded seven boards on the night.
UCF and Campbell went into the locker rooms after the first 20 minutes with the Golden Knights up 32-24. Roberts scored the first goal of the game 30 seconds and then Campbell went on a 13-2 run to put the Camels up 13-4 with 14:06 left in the half. UCF fought back to tie the score at 15 all after out scoring Campbell 11-2. UCF took the lead with 6:08 to go and never looked back.
Roberts and Houston each had eight points apiece in the first half with Roberts shooting 4-6 from the field and Houston 3-5 from the field and 2-4 from behind the three-point line. Hudson led the Knights in rebounds with five boards while Houston led in assists with four and Roberts in steals with two.
The Black and Gold opened the second half by out scoring Campbell 22-9 giving UCF a 23 point lead, their largest of the night. The game ended with Campbell out scoring UCF 24-12 to make the final score 67-57.
Kendra Damman led the Fighting Camels with 13 points. Marlena Murphy was also in double-digits for Campbell with 11 points.
This win was the second in nine attempts for the Golden Knights at Carter Gymnasium.
The Knights will travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb Saturday, January 15 at 7:00 p.m. UCF returns home to take on the Mercer Bears Thursday, January 20 at 5:00 p.m. in game one of a double header with the men's basketball team who will take on Florida Atlantic at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for both games.
