ORLANDO, Fla. - Celeste Hudson led UCF with 18 points and eight rebounds as the Golden Knights defeated Georgia State, 66-54. With the win, the Black and Gold improved to 9-6 on the season and 6-1 in the Atlantic Sun, while the Panthers fell to 6-9 on the season and 4-4 in the A-Sun.

Hudson was 6-for-10 from the field, 3-for-6 from behind the three-point line and 3-for-7 from the free throw line. In addition to Hudson's 18 points, Francine Houston had 14, Takira Allen had 11 and Lashaunda Slade had 10. LaShay King and Shayla Smith each had three assists, while Hudson and Houston had three steals.

In the first 20 minutes of action, UCF jumped out to an early lead after Hudson hit her first free throw and then missed the second only to grab the rebound. Hudson then fed the ball to Slade who knocked down a three to put the Golden Knights up 4-0 less than a minute into the game.

The Knights were up 6-0 before Georgia State scored their first field goal of the afternoon. The Panthers took the lead with 16 minutes left to play in the half. The two teams went back and forth for the next three minutes before UCF took the lead for good.

The Black and Gold were up by as many as 11 in the first half after outscoring the Panthers 15-4 in less than five minutes of action. The half ended with UCF up, 32-22. Hudson led the team at the break with nine points and three rebounds. Houston was following closely with eight points of her own. Allen grabbed five boards in the first 20 minutes of play.

In the second half of action, Ali Roberts opened the Golden Knights' scoring drive by hitting a layup just 30 seconds in. UCF then went on a 24-7 run to put the Black and Gold up by 27, their largest lead of the day. During that time, Hudson hit two three's, one field goal and one free throw for a total of nine points.



The Panthers fought back to end the game just 12 points down by outscoring UCF 25-10 in the final 10 minutes of action. During this time, Monica Thomas scored nine of the points by hitting three three's, while Patechia Hartman had eight points after hitting four field goals.

Hartman led Georgia State with 17 points while only grabbing four boards. Thomas was second on the team in points with 11. Brittany Hudson led the Panthers in rebounds with seven. Harman also led the team in assists with three and steals with two.

UCF returns to action on Thursday, January 27 when they travel to DeLand, Fla. to take on Stetson at 7:00 p.m. The Golden Knights return home on Saturday, February 5 when they host Stetson at 2:00 p.m. If you bring a canned food item to the game, you will be admitted for free. All donations will be used to help in the relief of the Tsunami victims.

Tickets are still available for the February 5th game. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older are $3.
