Ali Roberts had 15 points as UCF defeated Stetson, 54-49, in Atlantic Sun action. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 12-7 on the season and 10-2 in the A-Sun, while the Hatters fell to 8-10 on the season and 5-6 in the conference.
Roberts made six field goals and three free throws while grabbing five rebounds with one assist, one block and three steals. Shelby Weber led the Black and Gold in rebounds with nine, while also netting 10 points. Lashaunda Slade led the team in assists with five.
Roberts started the game off with a lay-up 30 seconds in. Stetson answered with a 9-0 run during the next three minutes. UCF fought back to outscore Stetson 19-11 in the next eight minutes to take the lead. During that time, Francine Houston had six points, including the one that put UCF in the lead, while Roberts had five.
Stetson regained the lead a few seconds later only to have Celeste Hudson hit a three to give the Golden Knights the lead again. UCF went up by as many as eight in the first half before ending the half with the Black and Gold up by five, 34-29.
In the first half, Roberts was leading UCF with nine points, while Weber had four rebounds. Slade had three of her five assists and Roberts had two of her three steals.
The second half started with Roberts blocking a lay-up by Stetson's Kristy Brown. The Hatters fought back to outscore UCF 8-2 in the first eight minutes of play and take over the lead, 37-36. The lead went back and forth for the next eight minutes before Roberts hit another lay-up to put the Knights up for good with 4:53 to play.
The Knights went up by as many as seven with 15 seconds left in the game before Kim Manning hit a jumper for the Hatters to bring them to within five and end the game with UCF up, 54-49.
Janene Maclin led Stetson with a double-double by scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kristy Brown netted 13 points for the Hatters, while Nefertiti Walker also had 12. Brown led Stetson with three steals, while Kim Manning and JoAnn Smith each had three assists.
The Knights return to action on Monday, February 7 when they host Jacksonville at 7 p.m. Tickets for Monday's game are still available. Adults are $5.
