Claudia Johnson led UCF with 18 points, a career-high for her, as the Golden Knights defeated Campbell, 81-40. With the win, the Black and Gold clinched the Atlantic Sun season title. UCF improved to 17-7 on the season and 15-2 in the Atlantic Sun, while the Lady Camels fell to 7-16 on the season and 5-11 in conference action.
Johnson was 6-for-12 from the field with all six of her field goals coming from the three-point range for the 18 points. Francine Houston was second on the team in points with 13, while Ali Roberts and Keunta Miles each had 10. Shelby Weber led the Golden Knights in rebounds with seven, while Lashaunda Slade paced the team in assists with seven. Roberts had five blocks, while Weber, Slade, Houston and Celeste Hudson each had two steals.
In the first half of action, Roberts started things off for UCF by hitting a layup less than 30 seconds in. Campbell responded with a layup of their own from Jennifer Martin to even the score up only to be fouled and hit the free throw to put the Lady Camels up by one. Houston tied the score up for the Golden Knights after hitting a free throw.
A minute after Houston's free throw, Weber hit two to give UCF the lead only to have Jennifer Lodge hit a layup for Campbell to tie the score again. Another layup by Roberts gave the Golden Knights the lead for good.
The Black and Gold were up by as many as 11 in the first half. From the 14:35 mark when Roberts hit the layup to the 6:09 mark, UCF outscored Campbell 16-7 for a score of 23-12. The half ended with UCF up, 28-20.
The Golden Knights dominated the second half of action by scoring 22 points in the first nine minutes with Houston netting nine of the points. UCF continued to increase their lead over the Lady Camels going up by 30 just under nine minutes to play. The Knights completely shut down Campbell the rest of the game to win by 41.
The 41 points marked the largest margin of victory for the Golden Knights during the 2004-05 season.
Kristin Vuckovich led Campbell with six points, while Amber Graham was second on the team with five. Graham paced the Lady Camels in rebounds with six, while Martin had two blocks and Lodge had two steals.
The Golden Knights return to action next Thursday, February 24 when they travel to Troy, Ala. to take on Troy University at 8 p.m. The game will be aired live via the internet at www.ucfathletics.com.
