ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Backed by a career night from senior guard Sara Djassi, the UCF women's basketball team rolled to its third-straight win Friday, 71-66, over FIU at CFE Arena.

With the victory, the Knights (3-0) not only cruised to their best start to a season since 1997-98 but also topped the Panthers (0-2) for the first time on UCF's home court since 1985.

Djassi led four Knights in double figures with 23 points. She was joined by sophomore guard Briahanna Jackson (18), freshman guard Zykira Lewis (12) and junior point guard Andrea Hines, who filled the stat sheet with 11 points, a game-high 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and no turnovers.

In a game that featured 17 lead changes and 12 tied scores, neither team was willing to give an inch. Once again, it was UCF's defensive presence in the final minutes that helped seal the win.

"We've done a pretty good job of being poised. We've had three close games so far and have been able to pull those out," UCF head coach Joi Williams said. "I think that breeds confidence when you can pull those tough games out in the end. To start out 3-0 is something we had not done since I've been here. It's a lot of fun but we have to keep it going."

As FIU led 66-65 with 1:39 to go, Hines swiped the ball from Janka Hegedus in the paint and drove coast to coast for the go-ahead bucket.

Coming out of a timeout, the Panthers drew up a play for All-American Jerica Coley, but her jumper clanked off the front of the rim, allowing Jackson to bring down a defensive rebound. She was fouled and sank her two free throws without hesitation to give the Knights a little cushion with 27 seconds remaining.

Djassi came through for the Knights on defense the next time down the court, grabbing a defensive board and capped the win with her two free throws, 71-66.

UCF hits the road for a Tuesday night matchup at Georgia State at 6 p.m. Season tickets, which start at only $30 for adults and $15 for kids, are available today by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFKnights.com.
