ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF's women's basketball team (2-2) fell 70-57 to Fordham (3-1) on Friday afternoon in its first game of the Thanksgiving Classic. Senior guard Aisha Patrick emerged as UCF's leading scorer for the third-straight game with 18 points, and redshirt junior Kayli Keough logged a career-high 13 points in her first career start for the Knights.
UCF simply did not have an answer for Fordham's Abigail Corning, who converted 11-of-15 from the floor for a game-high 29 points.
The Knights opened the game strong off unanswered jumpers from Patrick, sophomore Erika Jones and Keough in the first two minutes. Fordham stayed close behind as the two teams tied the score four times before the Rams rolled on a 10-2 run before halftime to take a 35-27 edge into the locker room.
UCF tried to shrink the gap and managed to get within 44-37 when freshman Bryeasha Blair found Keough for a jumper with 14:16 to go. However, the Rams responded with a 16-4 run to take their largest lead of the game, 60-41, with 8:41 remaining.
Fordham stayed one step ahead for the duration of the game to take the win.
The Knights return to the court on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. to face Hartford in their second game of the Thanksgiving Classic. Fordham will face TCU at noon prior to UCF's game. Due to an event in the UCF Arena, day two of the classic will be played at The Venue.
Season tickets, which start at only $49 for a fan pack of two, are still available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com. On gameday, tickets for the contest against the Panthers will be available at the UCF Arena box office. All UCF students are admitted free with a valid school ID.
The IMG Sports Network will broadcast all of UCF's games live on UCFAthletics.com with a subscription plan. Scott Adams will provide the play-by-play.
