ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -- The UCF women's basketball team (7-9, 2-2 C-USA) looks to get some momentum rolling when it continues conference play at home against Rice (8-9, 2-2 C-USA) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Although the Owls escaped with a 65-59 win the last time they visited UCF Arena, the Knights hold the advantage in the overall series, 4-3.
Thursday's game features two Whitney High School (Chicago, Ill.) alums in Rice senior guard D'Frantz Smart and UCF freshman guard Bryeasha Blair, who were both members of the 2008 Illinois State Championship team.
Thursday's matchup also pits two of the top rebounders in the conference against each other. Rice's Jessica Kuster and UCF's Erika Jones rank as the No. 1 and No. 2 rebounders, respectively, in Conference USA. Kuster is averaging 11.8 boards, and Jones is not far behind at 9.9 rebounds per game. However, in conference games only, Jones has the edge with a C-USA leading 12.0 per game, and Kuster checks in at No. 3 with 10.3 per game.
Rice is coming off a 69-42 loss at Tulsa. In addition to serving as the fourth-leading rebounder in the country, Kuster ranks second in the conference for scoring with 16.9 points per game, so it should come as no surprise that she ranks 15th in the nation for double-doubles this season.
Greg Wiliams took over the head coaching position at Rice in 2006 and holds a 97-109 record at the helm. He also served as a student assistant and assistant coach with Rice's men's team from 1969-1976.
