ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's basketball team gets a second look at an opponent for the first time this year when the Knights travel to Memphis on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. matinee.
Memphis (10-10, 3-5) claimed the season's first meeting in Orlando, 88-52, on Jan. 11. UCF senior Sara Djassi, who has led the Knights in scoring for the past five games, netted a team-high 15 points against the Tigers. Since the start of their annual two-game series with Memphis in 2006, the Knights have been swept by the Tigers just twice -- in 2010 and 2012.
The Knights have outrebounded their opponents in back-to-back games heading into Wednesday's contest. Senior Erika Jones needs one more rebound to reach the 800th of her career, a feat that just three Knights have achieved before her.
The Tigers are coming off back-to-back road losses to stiff competition in No. 1 UConn and No. 5 Louisville in the span of four days.
Sophomore Ariel Hearn averages 17.7 points per game for the Tigers, better than double the production of the team's next leading scorer. She ranks fourth among the American Athletic Conference's leading scorers and third for steals (2.2 per game).
The Knights return to Orlando on Feb. 1 against Houston for their 10K Gold Rush game with plenty of prizes in store for fans, including a chance to win $25,000 or a new Chevy Camaro.
