ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's basketball team will open the season Friday when the Knights host Central Connecticut State at 6 p.m. at CFE Arena. The contest is part of a doubleheader, and all fans with tickets to the men's game against Tampa (8:30 p.m.) will receive free admission to the women's contest.
UCF-CCSU will serve as the first game played on the new CFE Arena "blacktop" court.
The Knights, who are entering their first campaign in the American Athletic Conference, will be looking to carry over their end-of-season success in 2012-13 to this year. Head coach Joi Williams' team won nine of its last 13 games, including three contests to advance to the Conference USA Championship title contest.
UCF is led by Briahanna Jackson, a preseason all-league pick in The American. She was the C-USA Freshman of the Year last season when she averaged 15.0 points, 5.2 boards, 3.1 steals and 2.0 assists.
UCF will be playing the first of 15 games this year at CFE Arena Friday. The Knights will host defending national champion UConn and national runner-up Louisville during league play. Season tickets, which start at only $30 for adults and $15 for kids, are available today by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFKnights.com.
Live video and statistics will be available at UCFKnights.com.
