ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's basketball associate head coach Greg Brown participated in the Orange County Teach In Initiative on Wednesday morning by spending time with Coach Coogle's P.E. class at Maitland Middle School.
Brown discussed what it means to be a Knight, focusing on the characteristics of responsibility, trust, character and a competitive attitude. He also stressed the importance of attending class and working hard in the classroom.
He asked the 15 children in attendance who wished to go on to play a sport in college, and half the room raised their hands. He explained the amazing opportunities student-athletes are afforded, from world travel to a first-class education, and a player's responsibility to make the most of that opportunity.
"We always ask our players, `What did you do to help UCF today?'" Brown said to the class. "To whom much is given, much is expected."
The Knights (0-1) hold their home opener on Friday at 5 p.m. against Florida A&M with the UCF men to follow at 7 p.m. against High Point. Fans are encouraged to attend the game as the 2010-11 Conference USA Championship banner will be unveiled prior to tipoff.
