ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team returns home Friday to open its second season at UCF Arena against Florida A&M at 7 p.m. The Knights will play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, their only two home games in the first month of the season.
Knights' fans that are unable to make it to the game and are looking to follow the action can listen to a live audio internet broadcast with Scott Adams on the call. The broadcast, through Stretch Audio Internet, can be accessed at http://ucfathletics.cstv.com/multimedia/ucf-wbb-stretch-sched.html.
Florida A&M comes to town for the home opener for the second time in the past three years. The Rattlers, under the direction of first-year coach LeDawn Gibson, have started 2-0 with victories over Albany State and Savannah State.
The Knights fell 86-59 at Colorado on Sunday, the second-straight season UCF has opened against a Big 12 opponent. While the game did not end with the result head coach Joi Williams was looking for, it was not void of positives.
Led by a career-high 17 rebounds from sophomore Emma Cannon, UCF won the rebounding battle 51-35. Cannon added a team-high 19 points, with 14 coming in the second half. Freshman point guard Aisha Patrick started at point guard and finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
THE LAST MEETING: The last time the Knights and the Rattlers met was in 2006, when UCF defeated FAMU 68-54 win at home. The Knights are 7-15 all-time against FAMU, including 6-7 at home.
UCF VS. THE SUNSHINE STATE: In the history of the program, UCF has played 353 games against 25 schools from the state of Florida. In those games, the Knights have a 190-163 all-time record.
HOME OPENERS: The Knights have had success in their 31 home openers. UCF will head into Friday night's contest at 18-13 in those games. In 2005, UCF also played their home opener against the Rattlers, and earned the victory with a 62-54 win.
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: The UCF non-conference schedule includes nine games against foes from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC. The Knights play three of the contests at home, three on the road and three at a neutral site.
HEADSTART: Junior transfer Marcquitta Head made her UCF debut against Colorado, scoring eight points and grabbing nine rebounds. She is the lone upperclassmen on the UCF roster.
FIRST TIMER: For each of the Knights' first seven opponents this season, head coach Joi Williams will be facing them for the first time in her head coaching career.
