ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF women's basketball guard Zykira Lewis was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday. The Bartow, Fla., native's honor is the first weekly award for the Knights this season.
Lewis averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in UCF's road games against Georgia State and Charlotte. She sparked UCF's second-half rally against the Panthers with 13 points, all scored in 15 minutes off the bench, to help UCF secure its best season-opening stretch (4-0) since 1984.
She then led the Knights with 14 points against the 49ers on Saturday and was just one rebound shy of her first-career double-double. She is the only Knight to score in double figures in all five games this season and ranks as the American's leading rookie scorer.
The Knights host SIUE, Delaware and Howard in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. UCF will face Howard on Saturday and SIUE on Sunday, both scheduled for 2:30 p.m. tipoffs after the neutral-site matchups at noon.
There are 15 home games on UCF's slate in 2013-14, including contests against national champion UConn and national runner-up Louisville during league play. Season tickets, which start at only $30 for adults and $15 for kids, are available today by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFKnights.com.
