PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team found themselves in unfamiliar territory Tuesday in the final round of the Web.com Invitational. Instead of leading the pack, the Knights began the day tied for fourth place, 12 shots off the pace.
Matilda Castren of Florida State shot a 204 (-12) to take medalist honors and led the Seminoles to team victory.
Despite a solid opening round by Junior Monifa Sealy and a second round gem by Junior Fanny Cnops, the Knights were unable to play consistent enough to challenge the leaders. Cnops turned in the lowest score for the Knights, but her 217 (+1) narrowly missed the top ten amongst indivuals.
The Knights only other team finish outside of the top three this season came back in September, and this marks only the second time UCF was without an individual finisher in the top ten.
Florida State took home the team title with East Carolina holding on for runner up honors. Ohio State finished third with UCF finishing fourth just ahead of Maryland who rounds out the top five.
