GULF SHORES, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - In their first Conference USA Women's Golf Championship, UCF freshmen Katie Mitchell and Monifa Sealy led the No. 38 Knights to a third-place finish on the first day from the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club Monday afternoon.

UCF shot 18-over (306) on the par-72, 6,246-yard course. The Knights trail Tulsa (+11) and Tulane (+13) and will have a chance to move up in the standings during round two beginning Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. EDT.

The rookie duo of Mitchell and Sealy shot three-over (75) with a combined three birdies and are tied for seventh overall.

Junior Carolin Pinegger and sophomore Kaitlyn Price each carded 6-over (78) to tie for 17th after the first day of action.

Freshman Heather Proctor rounded out UCF's lineup with an 8-over (80) to conclude day one.

The course played tough all throughout the day as winds were gusting as high as 31 mph. The average score was 80.02 with the par-4 ninth averaging nearly a stroke over relative to par (0.90).
