BRYAN, Texas (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s golf team opened the 2013-14 season Monday with the first of three rounds at the “Mo” Morial, hosted by Texas A&M at the Traditions Golf Club.
After one round of play, the Knights are just six strokes off the lead and in third place. UCF put together a team score of 296 (+8) Monday afternoon. Texas A&M holds the first-round lead with a 290 (+2), while Kentucky is in second at 294 (+4). UCF is sitting in front of Virginia, East Carolina, Rollins, Florida State, Texas-San Antonio, Texas A&M’s B squad, Elon, Redlands Community College and Texas-Pan American in the 12-team event.
Playing in the No. 5 spot in the lineup, UCF junior Robyn Doig paced the Knights Monday. She fired a 1-under 71 and is in a tie for second place, just one stroke off the pace of the individual leader. Meanwhile, Monifa Sealy, Fanny Cnops and Ashley Holder rounded out the Knights’ scoring for Monday’s round. Each carded a 3-over 75 in their first 18 holes of the season, good enough for a tie for 19th place heading into the second round.
Playing as an individual, but representing the Knights, Kaitlyn Price also turned in a 3-over 75 to join her teammates in a tie for 19th. Kristine Odaiyar is also in the team lineup for UCF. She recorded in a 5-over 77 Monday and is tied for 35th.
