ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – While much of the country is locked in a deep freeze, it’s time to break out the sticks for the UCF women’s golf team. The Knights will take advantage of beautiful Florida weather begin the spring portion of their 2013-14 season Monday at the Florida Shootout.
The one-day event takes place at the Black Diamond Golf Club in Lacanto, Fla. and features most of the schools in Florida.
“This is a really unique event that we are really excited about,” UCF head coach Emily Marron said. “It’s basically a one-day ‘grudge match’ of the best women’s golf schools in Florida. We would definitely love to win this event and it’s not hard to get the team motivated when there is so much pride on the line.”
Marron said her squad is looking forward to playing at Black Diamond and knows that anything can happen in a one-day tournament.
“Black Diamond is a beautiful venue that plays around a rock quarry,” Marron said. “It is one of the best courses we see all year. With only 36 holes, we know it’s anyone’s tournament to win and it will be imperative to get off to a great start. It will be a fun day showcasing the best Florida schools.”
The Knights enter the spring portion of their schedule ranked No. 26 in the nation by Golfstat. The only state of Florida program ranked ahead of UCF is the University of Florida, which comes in at No. 16.
