ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 26 UCF women's golf team will host the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., beginning this weekend. Coming off of a team victory at the Florida Shootout, their first event this spring, the red hot Knights are looking to build on that victory at their only home event of the year.
"Hosting is always a fun week for the team," head coach Emily Marron said. "Eagle Creek is a new home course for us, but the team has had the chance to play it a lot this year and we feel comfortable there. We are coming off of a great win at the Florida Challenge and feel we can use that confidence and momentum to our advantage this weekend."
As usual, the field will be strong at this year's UCF Challenge. UCF will be facing some of the best teams in the country, including No. 21 Kentucky, No. 22 Iowa and No. 45 Wisconsin, among others. The Knights will be relying on each other to turn in another strong team performance while looking to secure a second straight victory.
Depth has been a key element for the Knights this season. With several players capable of competing, Coach Marron is able to stay with the hot hand and give her team its best chance at each event.
"We have a team where the lineup could change every event, and that has made qualifying for the team very competitive," Marron said. "The girls are very motivated and have their eyes set on some high goals this year. It has been really fun to be a part of and I am proud of all of their hard work."
The UCF Challenge will get under way Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at Eagle Creek Golf Club. The 7,212-yard course is an unusual par 73 featuring an additional par five and will challenge the field from tee to green. Live stats and complete results will be available by clicking here.
