ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF head women’s golf coach Emily Marron has announced the hiring of Steve Sims as the Knights’ assistant coach. Sims comes to Orlando after serving as a caddie for LPGA Tour professional Marcy Hart. He also has experience as a professional and college player.
Sims caddied for Hart in 12 LPGA Tour events from September of 2011 through April of 2013. Both he and Marron believe that experience will be beneficial for him in his new role at UCF.
“I am excited to have Steve join our staff,” Marron said. “His experience caddying on the LPGA Tour will help the players with course management and be valuable in getting them to the next level professionally after they graduate. Our goal is to contend for a national championship and Steve shares that passion to help us get there.”
“As a college and professional player, as well as an LPGA Tour caddie, those experiences will help me relate to the players and to the demands of the golf tournaments,” Sims said. “I bring a lot of knowledge as far as the mental game, preparation and the things that it takes to get to the next level.”
Sims is looking forward to working with Marron and the Knights. He is also happy to be back in Florida.
“Emily is great and I’m very excited to be here,” Sims said. “I’m also very honored and humbled to be a part of the program. It’s a highly-competitive program and I believe we have a lot to look forward to. It’s nice to be back in my home state, where we can practice and play year-round. The facilities and the support for the program here are top-notch. There’s a great support system at UCF and it is very exciting to see.”
In addition to his caddying experience, Sims has played professional events on the Florida Professional Golf Tour, the eGolf Tour, the NGA Hooters Tour, the Carolinas Professional Golf Tour and the Emerald Coast Golf Tour. His professional highlights include carding a round of 59 at the Wilshire Golf Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Sims served as an assistant golf course professional at the A.C. Read Golf Course at the Pensacola Naval Air Station from 2007-2011.
Sims is a 2006 graduate of Troy University, where he was a four-year starter and letterwinner for the Trojans. He was the 2005 Emerald Coast Collegiate Championship medalist during his collegiate career. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sport and fitness management from Troy.
