ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Two UCF Knights have qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Ashley Holder, who will be a sophomore at UCF in 2014-15, and junior-to-be Mary Mulcahy have each advanced out of sectional qualifying events to move on to the most prestigious women’s amateur golf tournament in the nation.
Holder, a product of Lake Nona High School, fired a 3-under 69 to tie for first place at a qualifying event held at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia on Tuesday. She was one of 10 qualifiers from that event.
Mulcahy, a Boston native, took part in a sectional qualifier at Haverhill Country Club in Haverhill, Massachusetts Thursday. She recorded a 2-over 72 to take third place and one of just three qualifying spots from the tournament.
"I'm really proud of both Ashley and Mary for qualifying for the U.S. Amateur," UCF head coach Emily Marron said. "This is the most prestigious women's amateur event in the country and to have two Knights in the field is great."
The U.S. Women’s Amateur is slated to take place August 4-10 at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, New York.
The UCF duo will be following in the footsteps of their Knights head coach. Marron played in the U.S. Women's Amateur in both 1997 and 1998.
