ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - It was a successful Saturday for the UCF rowing team as it defended its home waters in its last home regatta of 2012. The Knights topped in-state foes Stetson and Jacksonville in both the Varsity 8 and 4 races on Lake Pickett.

With a strong head wind blowing about 12-14 mph, both boats in each race powered through the conditions with the V8 winning in 7:31.5 and the JV8 taking second just in 7:34.4.

The varsity crew of coxswain Katherine Kutash, Alyssa Egan, Lucia Pinelli, Camille Everett, Chelsey Lauzon, Calena Illan, Kara Johannesen, Nina Morgan and Margaret Lahmeyer topped JU by 30 seconds.

In the V4, UCF dominated once again with the top varsity rig winning in 8:32.2 and the second team placing just behind in 8:37.6. Stetson and JU finished third and fourth, respectively, in times of 8:48.6 and 10:05.0.

The Knights will next compete in two weeks at the Rhode Island Invitational.
