CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's rowing team had a successful day on the Tennessee River as six boats competed across three races on day one at the Head of the Hooch Saturday afternoon. The second largest regatta in the U.S. saw over 9,000 participants.

Starting off the day in the Women's Championship 8+ event, the Knights saw their A boat record a time of 17:05.2 to take 13th place overall. The lineup of Rebecca Campbell, Kayla Thieken, Carly Burleson, Ginni Dunlop, Camille Everett, Kara Johannesen, Olivia Staples, Calena Illan and Brianne Addison topped boats from Tennessee (17:06), Oklahoma, Alabama (17:15) and in-state rival Florida (17:46). UCF's B squad finished the event in 17:14.7.

Returning later in the afternoon, the Knights' A boat nabbed a 23rd-place finish in the Women's Championship 4+ event in a time of 19:32.5. The squad of Heather Hart, Cassidy Massie, Lauren Copeland, Carla Ortiz and Jackie Puterbaugh clocked a better time than Florida (19:49), Ohio State (20:12) and future BIG EAST foe Cincinnati (20:42). The Knights' B boat crossed the stripe in 23:23.7.

The novice crew also made the trip for the Knights and competed in the Women's College & Club Novice 8+ event. UCF's "A" boat of Angela Zanicchi, Christian Valanti, Ashley Flowers, Adriana Chimelis, Chanel Milian, Michelle Prior, Alexa Ronelli, Andrea Niggebrugge and Niki Patten finished 16th in a time of 19:36.7, topping Florida (18:38.3), North Carolina (18:40.1), Louisville (18:58.4) and Kansas (19:17.6), FSU (19:23.2) and Miami (19:26.7). The Knights' "B" boat finished the race with a mark of 20:10.

The Knights will conclude the large regatta with the Women's Open 2- race. UCF will place 10 boats in the water during for the pairs race. The Black and Gold will return in the spring for a full slate of events.
