ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's rowing team will hold an informational meeting for potential walk-ons Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the UCF Student Union.
The informational meeting is open to all UCF female students, with no prior experience required, and will give each candidate the opportunity to tryout and compete for a South Regional Championship as part of the novice team.
During the official tryout, students will be evaluated on their general athleticism, while also receiving rowing instruction and education on the sport of rowing.
Last season, UCF's novice team traveled to California, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia to compete against some of the nation's top programs. The squad lost only two races during the season and finished third in the 17-team field at the South/Central Regional Championship in May.
Alumni of the novice program have gone on to race at the NCAA Tournament, have been invited to Freshman National Team camps and competed on the U-23 National Team.
Most recently, Christina Bechtold was invited to the US Women's National Team Freshman Camp during the summer of 2009 after competing in every event for the novice squad last season.
