ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -UCF women's soccer head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak recently spent time traveling Brazil in affiliation with the Sports United U.S. Sports Envoy Program.
Along with former USMNT star Cobi Jones, the pair visited Brasilia, Fortaleza, Natal and Recife to speak about and give clinics on the sport they love.
"Cobi and I go way back. We've probably been friends for about 15 years," Roberts Sahaydak said. "We've never done a Sports Envoy program together just the two of us, so it was great. I learned a lot from him. I think we're a good team."
Roberts Sahaydak has made similar trips over the years to Uganda, Philippines, Thailand, Namibia and France.
"The trips definitely re-invigorate my passion, and every trip has had its special thing about it. When I come home, I take a little piece of that country with me. The reason why we are there is to teach and share our stories and to inspire, but we come home as the ones who are inspired. It gives you great perspective."
On this particular trip, Roberts Sahadayk participated in various speaking engagements, including one with youth ambassadors who have been selected to travel to the United States. She also ran clinics for underprivileged children.
"Cobi and I always talked about the bigger picture and what life lessons can come out of sport," Roberts Sahaydak said. "I really tried to emphasize goal setting, working well with others and being a good teammate."
She also got the added perk of visiting the host country of the 2014 World Cup just weeks before it kicks off.
"We were able to visit some of the World Cup venues, which was awesome," she said. "They surprised us with our names on the Jumbotron."
