Roberts Sahaydak Heads Back to Brazil for World Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. ( – UCF head women’s soccer coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak is back in Brazil.  Having spent time in the host country of this year’s World Cup back in May, Roberts Sahaydak is again in Brazil to be a part of the festivities at the opening match.

President Barack Obama announced an updated designation of the Presidential Delegation to the Federative Republic of Brazil to attend the Opening of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Sao Paulo on Thursday.

The Honorable Daniel H. Pfeiffer, Senior Advisor to the President, will lead the delegation. The other members include Honorable Liliana Ayalde, United States Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, Department of State, and UCF’s own Roberts Sahaydak.

"I'm proud to attend the opening world cup match in Brazil on behalf of President Obama as a representative of my country and the sport I love," said Roberts Sahaydak. "This is both a once-in-a-lifetime experience and an overwhelming honor. Soccer has given me so much, and I take very seriously the opportunity to use sports diplomacy in bringing people together and promoting relations with America's important partners like Brazil."

Roberts Sahaydak was a 1996 Olympic gold medalist and a 1999 World Cup Winner as a member of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.

The 2014 World Cup began at 4 p.m. ET in Sao Paolo with the opening match featuring host nation Brazil and Croatia out of Group A.
