ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the past two weeks, the No. 12 UCF women's soccer team has grinded out hour after hour on the practice field, crossing off the days on its calendar as Aug. 17 loomed closer.

The Knights finally open the highly anticipated season this Friday when they head to instate rival USF for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.UCF holds the edge in the all-time series with a 6-1-0 record, including last year's 5-1 rout at home.

This year's Bulls were predicted to finish third in the American standings of the BIG EAST preseason poll after posting a 6-8-4 record last year. They won their two preseason exhibition contests, claiming a 3-2 victory over Florida Gulf Coast and a 1-0 decision against Jacksonville. Junior forward Demi Stokes was named to the All-BIG EAST preseason team.

UCF will then travel to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday to face the reigning Atlantic Sun Tournament and regular season champions at 1 p.m. The Eagles return 12 players, including six starters, from last season and are selected as the favorite in the A-Sun preseason poll.

Florida Gulf Coast will play Lynn on Friday before welcoming the Knights. In addition to their loss to USF, the Eagles survived Florida Atlantic in penalty kicks in their only other exhibition match of the year. UCF tied FGCU last season in a scoreless double-overtime draw and owns a 1-0-1 record all-time against the Eagles.

Sunday's matchup will pit two preseason defensive players of the year against each other as Ashley Ciesielczyk was the Atlantic Sun's selection and UCF's Marissa Diggs emerged as Conference USA's honoree.

Fans can keep track of Friday's game with live video coverage,  and live stats are available for Sunday's game. Complete recaps will be posted on UCFAthletics.com following both contests.

Season tickets are available for UCF's 11 home games, beginning at $30. This year's purchase comes with a complimentary soccer scarf to wear to the games. To purchase, call (407) UCF-1000 or visit UCFAthletics.com.
