ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Sophomore forward Lena Petermann will return to the UCF women's soccer team this week as a world champion. The Otterndorf, Germany, native netted the game-winning goal for her home country on Sunday night against Nigeria at Montreal's Olympic Stadium in the FIFA U20 World Cup final.

Petermann scored in the 98th minute during overtime and the 1-0 advantage was all Germany would need to hang on for the win. It marked Petermann's third game-winner of the tournament, having netted goals against the United States in the opener and again against France in the semifinals.

The 2014 American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year was interviewed by FIFA.com following the match and was understandably at a loss for words:

"At the moment I don't really know what's going on," said the visibly stunned 20-year-old in the depths of Montreal's Olympic Stadium. "I don't know where I am. It just feels good but it doesn't feel real yet. Right now I'm kind of in a state of shock and I still can't quite grasp what's happened. I'll need a few days before it all properly sinks in. I think our last two games were the toughest I've ever played in. Tonight is going to be amazing because it's something you probably only ever get to experience once in your life. You need to celebrate that accordingly."

She has previously represented her country at the 2010 and 2011 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championships and the 2010 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup. She also recently was called upon to join the U-20 team for the Six Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, this past March.

The Knights head to Texas to face ninth-ranked Texas A&M on Friday at 9 p.m. ET and TCU on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
