ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Two members of the UCF women's soccer team were recognized by the American Athletic Conference for their standout performances during the team's successful weekend at the USF Soccer Classic.
Junior Tatiana Coleman and freshman Lena Petermann were chosen as the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, Monday. It marks the first American honor for either forward.
Coleman recorded UCF's first hat trick since 2007 in just 45 minutes of play against North Florida to help lift the Knights to a 5-0 win Friday. She now has five goals on the season, tied for first among all American players.
The Boca Raton, Fla., native earned two SEC Player of the Week nods during her two seasons at Auburn.
A native of Otterndorf, Germany, Petermann tallied her first official goal and assist of her career against North Florida while helping the Knights to their third shutout of the year. She has been one of two freshmen to start every match for the Knights so far on the young season.
Senior defender Ashley Nicol also received honorable mention from the league for her effort this weekend as she played all 180 minutes of the team's two victories and tallied her first goal and assist of 2013 against Middle Tennessee.
UCF is back in action Friday at home against Stetson at 7 p.m. The soccer scarf is back for season ticket holders. For $30, fans will receive a special scarf, which will serve as one-general admission seat to all 2013 regular season home matches.
