ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF senior Marissa Diggs was named the American Athletic Conference's Defender of the Week on Monday, picking up the award for the first time this season.
The Knights (6-2-0) now boast a league-best four player of the week awards so far in 2013 as the Rowlett, Texas, native joins fellow honorees Carleigh Williams (defender, Aug. 26), Tatiana Coleman (offensive, Sept. 9) and Lena Petermann (rookie, Sept. 9).
Diggs played all 180 minutes of UCF's two shutout victories over the weekend against Stetson and Brown. As centerback, she commanded a back line that allowed just one shot on goal between the two matchups.
Diggs received praise from the American earlier as the conference's preseason pick for Defender of the Year.
Freshman forward Kayla Adamek also received honorable mention from the league for her two-goal performance in her first career start against Stetson.
UCF faces one of its bigger tests so far this season when the Knights travel Thursday to No. 12 Georgetown for a matinee showdown at 3 p.m.
