ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's soccer team puts its four-match win streak on the line when it faces one of its toughest tests of 2013 Thursday at 3 p.m. at No. 10 Georgetown.
The matchup will mark the first time since 2000 that the two programs have met. That year - the only meeting in series history - the Hoyas came out on top with a 1-0 decision.
Thursday's contest pits UCF against its second top-10 opponent of the season. The last time UCF toppled a top-10 team was Sept. 10, 2009, when it upset No. 4 FSU in double overtime, 1-0.
Both UCF (6-2-0) and Georgetown (7-0-0) boast some of their respective conference's top competitors. The Knights' Lianne Maldonado and the Hoyas' Emma Newins were both tabbed as Preaseason Goalkeepers of the Year.
UCF All-American Marissa Diggs (defensive) and Georgetown All-Ameircan Daphne Corboz (offensive) were recognized by the American Athletic Conference and BIG EAST, respectively, as players of the week Monday. They both were their leagues' preseason picks as players of the year for their respective positions, as well.
Along with Georgetown defender Emily Menges, the trio are all candidates on the watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy, collegiate soccer's top honor.
The game will be streamed on www.guhoyas.com for a subscription, and Gametracker will be running up-to-date stats.
