ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - On the strength of a seven-match unbeaten streak, the UCF women's soccer team broke back into the nation's top 25 in several major polls Tuesday.
The Knights (8-2-1; 1-0-0) returned to the NSCAA national top-25 at No. 24 after receiving votes for four weeks. UCF previously had been ranked every week from Dec. 6, 2011 - Sept. 3, 2013.
Soccer America put UCF back in its rankings at No. 22 while Top Drawer Soccer recognized the Knights for the first time this year at No. 24.
They are the only American Athletic Conference program among the top 25 in any of the polls. Virginia is the NSCAA's unanimous No. 1 followed by Standford, UCLA, Notre Dame and Florida State in the top five.
UCF also moved up in the RPI rankings to No. 14 on Monday from last week's No. 19. The standings rate more than 325 teams based upon their wins, losses and strength of schedule. UCF is only behind No. 6 FSU among teams in the state of Florida.
The Knights notched the first American Athletic Conference victory for UCF Athletics in their league opener against rival USF on Friday night, 2-1. They continue league play this weekend, and some of The American's stingiest defenses will be on display at the UCF Soccer Complex.
UConn (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Temple (Sunday, 1 p.m.) are tied for the league lead with six shutouts apiece, and UCF is close behind with five.
