ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Continuing its climb up the polls, the 2009 Conference USA champion UCF women's soccer team jumped to No. 8 in the country when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its top 25 Tuesday. The Knights, meanwhile, are No. 10 according to both Soccer America and Soccer Times.

This week marks the first time since Oct. 12, 1992, when UCF was No. 10 that it was ranked in the top 10 in the nation. That year, the Black and Gold reached as high as sixth in the Intercollegiate Soccer Coaches Association of America (ISAA) poll, which is now the NSCAA rankings.

UCF's all-time highest ranking stands at No. 2 when it was the national runner-up in 1982. The Knights also finished the 1984, 1986 and 1987 seasons ranked in the top 10, coming in at No. 7, No. 8 and No. 7, respectively.

This year's squad has been ranked every week since shutting out No. 4 Florida State and USF in mid-September.

UCF's non-conference RPI of No. 4 in the country has solidified itself as a postseason threat in 2009. It also went through the second-toughest non-conference schedule behind only North Carolina, and posted a 5-2-1 record in the process, defeating not only FSU but also No. 10 Duke and tying LSU, which has evolved into a staple in this season's rankings.

Holding a 14-3-1 overall record, the Knights have already guaranteed themselves a share of the C-USA regular-season title with a 9-1-0 league mark. They will go for the outright title in the regular-season finale on Senior Night Friday when UCF hosts Southern Miss at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and the first 100 fans receive a complimentary UCF soccer shirt.
