ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - In recognition of its championship run through the regular season, the No. 12/17 UCF women's soccer team was handsomely honored by the American Athletic Conference at the championships banquet Thursday night.

The Knights hauled in a league-best 10 honors, including three of the conference's major awards: Defensive Player of the Year (Marissa Diggs), Rookie of the Year (Lena Petermann) and Coach of the Year (Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak).

In addition to their individual awards, Diggs and Petermann along with junior forward Tatiana Coleman were named to the All-Conference First Team while junior midfielder Jennifer Martin earned second team distinction.

Petermann, forward Kayla Adamek and defender Caroline Bado were all selected to the All-Rookie Team.

In her first year at the helm of the program, Roberts Sahaydak guided the Knights to a record-setting and unforgettable inaugural season as a member of The American. Under her direction, UCF broke a 26-year-old school record for longest unbeaten streak, which stands currently at 16 matches. The team clinched its first undefeated conference season (8-0-1) since 1999 to win The American's regular season title, and the Knights were either ranked or received votes every week in the NSCAA national poll.

Diggs picked up her second Defensive Player of the Year crown in as many years, having also been recognized with the title by Conference USA in 2012. The senior All-American centerback, who paces the Knights in minutes, has helped the backline secure 10 shutouts this year. UCF ranks among the NCAA's top 15 leaders for goals-against average in 2013. This marks her third all-conference first team honor.

Petermann's multiple awards are well-deserved. In her first year sporting a Black and Gold uniform, the German native was the American's Rookie of the Week a conference-best four times. She tallied eight goals and four assists for 20 points, ranking among the league's top 10 leaders this season for points and goals.

Coleman made an immediate impact in her first year with UCF, emerging as the Knights' leading point scorer (26). She ranks among the league's top 10 in goals, assists and points and is currently riding a four-match point-scoring streak. The first-team appointment is the second of her career, having earned an all-SEC nod while at Auburn.

Martin earned her first-career all-conference recognition. Of her six goals in 2013, three were game-winners in some of UCF's most memorable victories. She netted the lone goal against fellow American frontrunner Louisville and recorded the game-winner against Memphis that broke the school record for the program's longest unbeaten streak.

Bado assumed UCF's left starting back position at the beginning of the season and has helped UCF's defense rank as one of the nation's best all year. She just recorded her first career goal in the 3-0 quarterfinal win over SMU.

Adamek, who was named the Rookie of the Week in the final awards of the regular season, was an offensive force that led the team in goals (6) and points (12) during league play to guide the team to the regular season title.

The No. 1 seeded Knights will host their American Championship semifinal matchup against rival USF at 5 p.m. Friday. The winner will advance to face the victor of Friday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal matchup between No. 7 Memphis/No. 3 Rutgers in Sunday's title game at the UCF Soccer Complex at noon on ESPNU.
