ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - As the soccer season comes to a close, postseason awards have started to be given out. Both the UCF men's and women's soccer programs have been awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Awards for the 2009-10 academic year, posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. This is the second consecutive year both teams have been honored with this prestigious academic award.
UCF joins Duke, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Penn, Penn State and West Virginia as the only seven Division I schools to have both the men's and women's programs earn for the award and qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
The women's team finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 15-5-3 and reached the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the fourth-straight season. The Knights also received a national seed in the national postseason for the second-consecutive year.
The men are currently 11-4-3 overall this season, as it has posted its best record in six years. The Knights will host their first-ever NCAA Tournament game against USF Thursday at 5 p.m. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com as well as UCFathletics.com or by calling (407) 823-1000. Gates open at 3:30 p.m.
