ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The NSCAA honored two members of the UCF women's soccer team with All-Northeast Region distinction Wednesday. Senior defender Marissa Diggs was named to the first team and junior forward Tatiana Coleman was named to the second team.
This year marks the 10th straight that UCF has boasted multiple all-region selections. Diggs was named to the first team for the third-straight year while Coleman received her first career all-region honor.
As the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, Diggs anchored the Knights' backline to 12 shutouts on the year and one of the nation's top units for goals-against average. UCF gave up just six goals through its first undefeated conference season since 1999 and went on to win the league's first conference tournament title thanks to three-straight shutouts.
Coleman had a memorable first season with the Knights as an all-conference first team honoree and The American Championships' Most Outstanding Offensive Player. She led the team in goals (10), assists (8) and points (28) throughout the year and recorded UCF's first hat trick (vs. North Florida) in six years.
She came through for the Knights in their shootouts against USF and Rutgers during the conference championships, netting both of her penalty kicks to help deliver the conference title and cap their school-record unbeaten streak at 18 matches.
