ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Two members of the UCF women's soccer team - senior Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) and junior Tishia Jewell (Satellite Beach, Fla.) - were recognized for their work in the classroom this week as both Knights were named to the 2011 NSCAA College Scholar All-America First Team. Reis and Jewell were two of 72 players in the country to earn academic honors from the soccer coaches association.
The Knights excelled on the field this past season, leading UCF to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight. A forward, Jewell garnered NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America Third Team honors and was named to the All-Conference USA First Team. She led the team with 24 points. Jewell scored seven goals and dished out 10 assists, good for 24th nationally. She recorded 90 shots on the year, with 40 coming on goal, and netted a pair of game-winning goals.
One of the premier goalkeepers in the nation, Reis received NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team recognition. She played all but 16 minutes during the campaign and ranked third nationally in goalkeeper minutes (2,277). She totaled 81 saves and had a 0.91 goals-against average. Reis was named to the Lowe's Senior CLASS First Team earlier this month.
Reis recently received her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. She entered the 2011 campaign with a 3.64 cumulative grade-point-average. Reis was an NSCAA College Scholar All-America Second Team selection a year ago.
Jewell is currently pursuing her master's degree in non-profit management. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology in two years and boasted a 3.72 cumulative grade-point-average.
UCF has now had at least one player selected as a NSCAA College Scholar All-American in each of the past five seasons under head coach Amanda Cromwell.
The scholar athletes will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom on Saturday, Jan. 14, in conjunction with the 2012 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
